March 8 is not a “Soviet holiday”. And to be honest, it is time to stop repeating this myth like an old worn-out record.

International Women’s Day appeared long before the Soviet Union. Its roots are in women’s movements for the right to vote, decent working conditions and equal opportunities. That is why this day has a European and global origin, not a Soviet one.

Yes, in Soviet times it was simplified to flowers and postcards. But the true meaning of this day is much broader – it is respect, equality and gratitude to women for their contribution to the development of society.

In modern Ukraine, women play a huge role in all spheres of life – in communities, science, business, public administration, volunteering and the defense of the country. Their strength, professionalism and dedication help develop our country every day.
